The objective of the workshop is to raise the awareness of participants who are considering establishing a site by examining the processes and costs involved in setting up a site and providing answers to the questions that arise.
Now, more than ever, it is tempting to set up an Internet site right away. The costs are not substantial, and it takes only a day to establish one. The real problem is not in setting up a site, but in running and maintaining the site -- and that becomes apparent only after the site is up. Suddenly unexpected expenses pop up, sometimes adding up to more than the initial cost of setting up the site.
The establishment of a new website requires advertising in order to attract visitors. The goal of every site owner is to transform the spontaneous visitor into a client.
No small number of businesses invest good money in setting up Internet sites only to see those sites become white elephants. Some of these sites have some new message to deliver, and through some relatively simple means these sites can succeed; other sites are simply too much like existing ones in a similar field.
The workshop is directed at self-employed professionals and small businesses interested in setting up a site or in upgrading an existing site. No prior knowledge is required – except for basic familiarity with the Internet.

The workshop includes 3 meetings of 4 hours each and covers the following:

Introduction and basic concepts
  Familiarizing the participants with the lingo: getting to know all the terms related to establishing an Internet site.
Subjects: Servers dedicated, shared storage, addresses, mail), domain, hosting, type of site (dynamic, static, image, sales), securing information and SSL.
Planning and setting up a site
  Putting the emphasis on all the right points when setting up a site. At the end of the process we can answer the question: Is it worth setting up an Internet site? If so, what kind of site should it be?
Subjects: Definition of objectives and goals of the site, planning the site, selecting a domain and the consequences of that choice, parameters for choosing a hosting company, encoding the site, writing content and designing graphics.
Advertising and marketing the site
  A presentation of the different ways to promote a site on the various search engines and indexes
Subjects: A general overview of the various search engines and indexes; advertising and marketing the site through the use of search engines and indexes (search engine optimization and search engine advertising), methods of creating focused, effective visitor traffic; analysis and monitoring of surfer traffic on the web.
